A Study on Body Image and Self-esteem for Spinal Cord Injury Patients

Abstract

|
This study has attempted to identify the body image and self-esteem of spinal cord injured patients and relationship of these two concepts, in order to provide baseline data for effective nursing.
The survey was based on data of 40 patients colleted through the questionnaires including personal characteristic, body image and self-esteem by researcher. The survey was performed from January to April, 1995 at C. general hospital in Taejon area.
The results of this study were as follows
1. The spinal cord injured patients were body image average 2.90 and self-esteem average 3.27.
2. The body-image was statistically significant according to educational level(F=4.27, P<0.05).
3. The self-esteem was statistically significant differences according to age(F=3.86, P<0.05).
4. There was significant relationship between body image and self-esteem(r=0.3512, P<0.05).
